Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child

Give Christ’s love to next generation around the world.

Operation Christmas Child is a year-round ministry at Metropolitan as people shop and prepare their boxes for Collection Week. In October Metropolitan Baptist Church distributes “Go Boxes,” decorative shoeboxes that get filled with small gift items for boys and girls. On the first Saturday in November MBC hosts a packing party for these shoeboxes. Volunteers assemble to pack boxes with hygiene products, school supplies, games, toys and stuffed animals. There is a time of fellowship and prayer as the boxes are packed and sent off to a collection center where they are put into cartons and sent on to distribution centers where they will be sent world-wide. Operation Christmas Child exists in response to the Great Commission, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” (Matthew 28:19 ESV).

Some of Metropolitan’s Operation Christmas Child leaders train other churches throughout Brooklyn and Staten Island how to participate. Annually, members and friends of Metropolitan travel to the larger distribution sites to help prepare the boxes for shipping to various countries around the globe.
