Visiting Short-Term Mission Teams

Metropolitan is located just off the main junctions of Bensonhurst, Brooklyn’s commercial area in a highly diverse residential neighborhood. God has placed this congregation here where less than 1 percent are evangelical Christians. Mission teams make it possible to impact this community with the love and power of the Gospel.

Mission teams from all across the south, Midwest, and northeast have joined with Metropolitan over the past nine years in the great work of Christian ministry. Teams vary in their mission focus including evangelism outreach, literature distribution, Vacation Bible School, prayer walking, community service projects, mowing the local cemetery, construction, painting, park outreach, musical concerts, and more.

Metropolitan has hosted teams of various sizes from 8 to 100 during that time. Junior High, Senior High, college, and adult teams have graced our ministry. What a joy to see brothers and sisters in Christ coming together to reach some of the least evangelized parts of North America. We are excited about speaking with mission teams looking to do ministry in Brooklyn at any time of the year. Simply contact Pastor Chris for further details.

Missions at MBC

In keeping with the Great Commission and the Great Commandment, Metropolitan seeks to establish a missional mindset among those who attend this Church. 15% of all non-designated tithes, offerings, and donations are budgeted each year to support our established missionaries and mission ministries. In addition, we encourage short-term mission trips to enhance the understanding of what the mission field is like and we have an extensive missionary training program for those who go on short-term mission trips. Metropolitan also gladly receives mission teams to serve at Metropolitan throughout the year.

Those who wish to receive support from Metropolitan can look at the Long-term Missionary Cover Letter and the Long-term Missionary Application on this website. Though our funds may be limited, we love to pray for missionaries, especially those in line with our missional goals and doctrines.

Metropolitan church members and attendees may apply to go on a mission trip by looking at the Short-term Mission Cover Letter, Short-term Mission Application, and the Short-term Mission References. All short-term mission team members are required to attend the nine month training seminars in order to go on the trip.

Mission teams wishing to come to Metropolitan may contact Pastor Chris to discuss what needs and opportunities are available.

Mission Commission

The Great Commission given by our Lord Jesus at the end of the Gospel according to Matthew challenges the Church to enthusiastically share the Good News of concerning God’s offer of salvation through Jesus Christ. At Metropolitan, we take that commission seriously. Our Mission Commission is designed to help the members of Metropolitan to understand the importance of that commission and support missions through giving, going, and sharing that the world may hear about God’s promise of forgiveness and new life.

The Mission Commission motto establishes its goal: A commitment to Christ creates a craving to communicate Him with all of Creation. This is accomplished, as its purpose states, to educate and equip the people of MBC to passionately seek to make Jesus Christ known locally and abroad, while increasing our financial and emotional support to our missionaries. All applications for mission support and short-term missions go through the Mission Commission in order for Metropolitan to maintain its stated target mission fields and levels of support.
