Senior Pastor: Chris Gardner

Pastor Chris’s life and ministry remain focused on creating a passionate pursuit of God’s glory through Jesus Christ. Called to the ministry in his late teens, he struggled with that calling for six years following high school. His ultimate surrender of His life and calling led to his enrollment at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. He married his wife, Karen, just prior to beginning his college experience. He completed his BA in Biblical Studies in three years, graduating summa cum laude in 1981. During that time a son, Christopher Jr., and a daughter, Danielle, were born. The diagnosis of his son with leukemia just prior to his final semester at Taylor led to a change of direction in his graduate studies resulting in enrollment at Westminster Theological Seminary near Philadelphia, PA.

It was at Westminster that Pastor Chris gained a heart for the city and came to understand what he had always sensed, that a passionate pursuit of God’s glory brings purpose and meaning to life. He completed a Master of Arts in Religion and a Master of Divinity, graduating in 1984. That summer, young Christopher went home to the Lord, an experience that prepared the Gardners for a stronger ministry to the hurting among God’s people.

After 10 years in a suburban church outside Philadelphia, Pastor Chris came to Metropolitan to carry out an urban ministry. Teaching weekly at the New York School of the Bible, and having served as adjunct professor of Biblical Studies at The King’s College, Manhattan, Pastor Chris brings his skills as a preacher and teacher into the local church, while his wife and daughters add their ministry skills to the ongoing commitment to passionately pursue the glory of God at MBC.
